Study in Scarlet Ruff Top
Study in Scarlet Ruff Top
Monchromatic doesn't have to be boring, and this burgundy on burgundy ruff is proof. The neck is a soft pebble grain cowhide, and the ruff features a venetian finish upholstery leather meaning that it has a slight marble finish which gives the leather depth and dimension, but the high aniline finish ensures its durability. (Basically this stuff was made to be a couch and we thought, "we can do better.")
The Ruff Top
What the hell is a Ruff Top? Well, the full name was Ruffle Top, but Ruff Top is funnier, and in the studio we just call them Ruffs.
Technically a decorative leather harness, they’re somewhere near the intersection of a vest, a halter top, and a bolero. They look incredible over corsets and bodices and take fantasy and costuming looks to the next level, but they play surprisingly well in a modern wardrobe too. We love them over a crop top with high waisted, wide leg pants, styled as the fourth piece of a three piece suit, or maybe even nothing at all.
***Important note on sizing***
Since the Ruff Top is a Krakenwhip original garment, the sizing is unique to us!
We currently make ruff tops in six standard sizes 37, 38, 39, 41, 43, and 46. The number is the total length of the neck piece in inches, so it’s not your waist, bust, or rib measurement that’ll tell you your size, it’s the length of your torso. (It’s not intuitive, we know, but we promise it *is* logical.)
You can check out our sizing video here, or keep reading for self measuring instructions.
This is a two parter: First, you’ll want to grab a measuring tape (no really, don’t estimate this) and measure from the top of your spine, along the side of your torso and to your natural waist. Double this for the neck length needed for your ruff. This will give you a size to check, but you’re not quite done!
Next, you’ll need a waist circumference, and then another taken three inches above the natural waist. That’s where the straps are going to snap around you, so we’ll need to make sure they’re the right length.
Longer Ruffs come with longer straps so larger sizes will fit larger bodies overall, and there’s lots of adjustability in the straps, but individual topographies vary and we’d like to make sure your ruff top fits you well. If the straps that come standard with your Ruff length just let us know in your order comments and we’ll make them to measure for you at no extra cost. (It’ll just take us a few days.)
